BENHAM Brothers

As my brother and I travel to grow our company we are often asked where we studied business. Our answer is always the same…we didn't study business in college, just the bible. As a matter of fact, we were American History majors!

World Peace Elbow to Harden

Last Sunday my son, Ty, and I watched the Lakers play the Thunder on NBC. It was an exciting game that went into double overtime. Ultimately, the Lakers pulled out the victory thanks to Kobe Bryant’s last minute heroics.

Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is just around the corner and America needs your prayers, now more than ever. Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.”

Yet today we continue to face unabated moral decline, economic turmoil, military conflict in the Middle East, and the ever-increasing assaults against religious liberty.

Lazy

Oslwald Chambers said, “Unguarded strength is double weakness.” The more I think about this the truer it becomes to me. Below are a few crafty ways he gets even the strongest Christians to stumble in their strengths:

I read a couple quotes in my Bible this morning that I had written in the margin of Judges 2. The quotes startled me because of their reality, yet what startled me even more was the scripture reference that they applied to.

"All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel."

- Judges 2:10

Easter Traditions

One of the things I love most about holiday traditions is passing them down to the next generation.  Last weekend we celebrated Easter together as a family – the WHOLE family! Between my brother, sister, and me we had 12 kids all “sugared up” from their Easter baskets while the littlest ones ran wild in search for hidden eggs.  It was a great time and hysterical to watch our kids.

good friday

Today is Good Friday. It's good because Jesus took our bad and made us good through His blood. I thank Him today. I wanted to share a few words today from Oswald Chambers titled, The Collision of God and Sin

He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed. – 1 Peter 2:24

56 Brave Signers

The simple difference between a statesman and a politician is that a statesman stands on principle regardless of how it affects his electability. Furthermore he is willing to die for those principles. For a politician, on the other hand, electability is the supreme standard.

green lawn

Since I've lived in my home I have never had a nice yard. Still today, my yard is not that nice because I just "can't" find the time to take better care of it. However, a year ago I decided it was time to start. It's been 12 months, and just this morning I realized that all the seeding, spraying, and fertilizing if finally starting to work.  It's as if all of a sudden I have soft green grass in my front yard. I've never seen that before, and it's so refreshing!

Teddy Roosevelt once said, "I never knew a man who lived a life of ease whose name was worth remembering."  This quote was true then and is still true today.

As John the Baptist proclaimed a message of repentance along the Judean countryside, those who heard him responded with a common question, “What shall we do?"

It is interesting to note that John did not tell the crowds to quit their jobs and surrender to full-time "ministry". He instead gave them a list of practical ways that true repentance could be demonstrated in everyday life.

As we travel or go about town we are often asked, "Is BENHAM Companies a business or a ministry. After drilling down the definitions of both business and ministry, we are left with the fact that both of these words basically mean the same thing - service.

As I travelled from Charlotte to Palm Springs, CA I saw something that reminded me of a scripture verse in Proverbs. I was walking down the aisle of the plane, and I couldn't help but notice an elderly woman with in incredible glow on her face. She looked at me and smiled so sweetly, and I just knew in my heart that she was a Christian.  I had seen this glow before.

family shadow

You should have seen the look on my kids' faces when I told them the story of a how a man’s poor decision cost the lives of every person in his family. I explained an Old Testament story of how Achan's entire family was destroyed simply because he decided to disobey a clear command of God.  Many of us have read the story of Achan in Deuteronomy, but few of us stop to consider how his wife and children must have felt about their father's failure, and how he felt about it as a father.
