Pray for Wisdom | BENHAM Companies
Solomon was the wisest king that ever lived. Kings and Queens from all over the world traveled to hear his wisdom and see the splendor of his kingdom. What I find interesting is that when he was a young king God visited him in a dream and told him that He would grant whatever him whatever he requested. Without hesitation Solomon asked for Wisdom. I'm not sure I would've asked for that, but because of Solomon's wise request God gave him both wisdom and wealth.
So how did this young king know to ask for wisdom instead of following the fleshly impulses of his heart?
First, his dad prayed for him before he became king. Psalm 72:1-6, "Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness. May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor. May he endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. May he be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth."
Second, his dad taught him to seek wisdom by following God. 1 Chronicles 28:9-10, "So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever. And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever."
It was natural for Solomon to ask God for wisdom, because it was taught to him and prayed for by his father. As a father of children and a "father" to my business, I pray that God will use me to instill in those following me
