The Bible

As Jason and I travel and speak across the country many people ask us where we were trained in business. Our standard reply is always the same, "We were not trained in business, we were trained in the Bible." Although this may seem like a trite response, we cannot give credit to any training other than that of Bible study.

Freedom from Financial Funk

If you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you…Prov 22:27.

Sounds simple doesn't it? Unfortunately, this simple wisdom is considered foolishness by the a majority of the leaders in our country today. Despite Congressional Committees, Presidential Commissions and even sequesters  we still struggle as a country to balance our budget.

“For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.” - Genesis 47:5-6

When God set forth the instructions to make His tabernacle He specifically told Moses to use “skillful workmen.” It s extremely important to note that God did not want His things made by someone who cut corners and who had not learned their trade properly. He wanted His tabernacle to be built EXACTLY as He ordered it, and for that to happen Moses would need to use the most skilled workers he could find.

“Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold. Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.” – Exodus 20:23-25

Matt 14:15 - As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”  Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

Solutions

"And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.

They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food.

Genesis 2:4-5 ...When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens - and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the filed had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground...

Hope

Psalm 147:11 - The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Fear and Hope work together. The fear of the Lord leads us to the wisdom of God, and Hope in Him leads us to His overwhelming goodness. You cannot have one without the other. Fear alone leads to despair. Hope alone leads to presumption.

magi from the east

Matthew 2:2 - After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Concord 2012 Christmas Parade

During this time of year I schedule fewer appointments and call upon others less to focus on rest with my family outside of my normal work load. These are some of the sweetest times of the year for me because rest for a laboring man is sweet.

I find it interesting that God commanded us to labor for six days and then to rest on the seventh, which is actually the full commandment. We often think that God told us to simply rest on the seventh day, but He actually told us to first work for six days and THEN to rest. (Exodus 20:9, 35:2)

William Wallace

A good friend of mine, Levi Gray, wrote a blog on biblical manhood that I thought was excellent. I've taken the middle section of it and re-posted it below.  These are days when biblical manhood is needed more now than any other time I've seen in my life. The last four paragraph's provide four characteristics of biblical manhood.  They're simple and very easy to pass on to our children.  Enjoy, and be a man of God today!

Surely I have composed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child rests against his mother,
My soul is like a weaned child within me.
Psalm 131:2

A young man who I've been mentoring for a little over a year wrote me an email listing three victories God has given him in his life recently. I was so impressed with his honesty, faithfulness, and humility that I felt his email needed to be shared. I hope it encourages you as it did me that our faith is real and should affect every area of our lives:

David, below are three victories that God has given me in the last month. I wanted to share them with you and praise the Lord for His faithfulness to make me a Godly man.
